The Youth Ministry program at Preston Meadow has a lot going on - from our weekly events like the YouthConnect, Confirmation, Shalom Singers, Shalom Ringers, Da'Light and more, but we also have other special events like fundraisers and retreats. To stay up to date on what is going on, click here to see what events are going on for the next couple months.
Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:45 are our opportunities to connect to God's Word, our faith, and one another through our YouthConnect hour. Bible studies based on the liturgy aim to get at real world issues in the lives of our youth and help activate their faith to be lived beyond the walls of the church. We don't hide from hard issues; we play and laugh a lot; and of course, there are donuts!
We take a break from Youth-Connect in the summer and focus on our SERVE trips where youth and adults are sent out to be Grace In Action. See below for the latest places our youth are sent to.
During the middle school years, youth are invited to affirm their baptisms through the faith milestone of confirmation. We gather Wednesday nights throughout the school year to focus on the basics of our faith in the small catechism through large and small group teaching. We build lifelong relationships with each other and adults who have committed to nurture the faith of this generation by walking with them over the 2 years. Retreats and mission trips throughout our time allow youth to get away from the daily distractions of life and focus on the gift of faith God has given each.
High school youth take extra time before the start of their week to dive into faith-filled conversations about big (and little) issues in their lives. Guided by Scripture, they wrestle with the God of grace and what it means to follow Jesus in every aspect of their lives --from their social media presence to their relationships and extracurricular activities.
Youth from 6th - 12th grades are invited to be a part of our SHALOM music and mission ministry. The Shalom Singers and Shalom Ringers meet weekly to rehearse choral and handbell music to help lead worship throughout the year. Every summer, the group heads out on tour to share their love of music and God with our wider country. Destinations to serve and sing have included San Francisco, the Deep South, Minnesota, and around Texas.
Serve God and others. It's that simple.
Middle School Youth participate in a hybrid camp and service trip sponsored by Briarwood Lutheran Retreat Center. They enjoy the best of camp while heading into the greater DFW metroplex each day to serve others with the light and love of Christ.
Every summer, we partner with the Haitian Timoun Foundation to lead a summer camp for 250 children in Jacmel, Haiti. Coming from extremely poor households, these children are given two meals a day during the week we're there, taught scripture and God's plans for their lives, and build relationships. Participants have to be at least 16 years old to participate. It's the hottest trip we take and one that grows our faith in powerful ways as we seek to be in relationship with God's beloved in Haiti.
