Baptism & Communion at PMLC
Worship is the primary work of the church. Everything
we do and say in worship points to our great God who has rescued us from sin,
death, and evil in the cross of Jesus and has delivered us to new life and hope
with Jesus’ resurrection.
God delivers grace through our worship.
This grace is God’s unconditional love for all of us that frees us to be the
people God wants us to be. This grace shows up in our sacraments of Holy
Baptism and Holy Communion. It comes to us as we listen to God’s Word and
hear it interpreted for our day. In worship, we experience the means of
Baptism is more than “eternal salvation.” It is the way
we become members of the Body of Christ here on earth. It gives us a new
identity – beloved children of God – so that we may live in the power of God’s
grace in the here and now. We celebrate
adult, teen, child, and infant baptisms throughout the year.
In infant baptism, parents make several
promises to pass on the faith to their children, including bringing them to the
services of God’s house. It’s important to invest in your faith by
belonging to a local body of believers, so we require parents to be members of
our church before their children are baptized.
Communion at PMLC is the other way we experience God’s grace
through worship. In this Last and Holy
meal of Jesus, we remember his life and receive his forgiveness. We taste our future where God promises to
remove death and establish us in the kingdom of heaven. We open our empty hands and thank God for
providing us grace and new life through simple elements of bread and wine.
We are invited to the table at Jesus’
invitation, and because of that, our communion table is open to all. That means that you don’t have to be a member
of PMLC to commune, or even a Lutheran. We welcome children of all ages
to this favorite meal of the church because of Jesus’ invitation. He enjoyed eating with sinners and the
outcast. He told his disciples to bring
the ‘littlest ones’ to him. So we come,
not because we are worthy and have it all figure out but because God wants us
to enjoy grace.
To assist families with preparing their
children for communion, we have created a holy communion packet for your family
as you prepare to engage this great meal of God's. We believe that it’s
never too soon to be a part of God’s table ‘party.’

We hold two sessions a year, one
in the Fall and one in the Spring. There
